BIO
"The most perfect recording I’ve heard this year, maybe in a couple of years"
John Diliberto ECHOES, USA
(WINNER OF ECHOES BEST ALBUM OF 2018)
Jo Beth Young is a true hidden gem rising in the prog and neo-folk scene. Her ethereal vocals, mesmeric haunting style coupled with her beautiful songs have increasingly been enrapturing and provoking deep emotional response in audiences internationally for over 15 years. Writing from a place of raw genuinity, the visionary singer/songwriter, producer and multi instrumentalist's poetically tangible world comes armed with lullabies and battle cries hand in hand. At times heartbreaking, but always hopeful.
"Deeply moving and soulful"
LOUDER THAN WAR
In 2018 her debut album ‘An Abandoned Orchid House’ (released under the pseudonym Talitha Rise) garnered international acclaim and support from BBC 6, BBC Introducing Devon, and the legendary ECHOES Radio in the USA who made her the number 1 album of the year. With unique world, folk and progressive sounds, her recordings feature an incredible host of special guests and collaborators including Chris Difford (Squeeze) Mike Rowe (Sheryl Crow) Peter Yates (Fields Of The Nephillim), Martyn Barker (Shriekback, Goldfrapp), Juldeh Camara (Robert Plant) Bjork and Sigur Ros Engineer Addi 800 and Kevin Bolus.
Jo Beth's live shows bring deep emotional magic to the audience that has been reviewed by PROG, Progradar and National papers as "unmissable" and "exquisite". She has opened for acts such as Boo Hewardine, Julia Biel, Renaissance, Antonio Forcione, Niall Toner, John Hoban and Shriekback. Her voice and songs have held the spellbound attention of audiences at venues such as The Maltings, St. Pancras Church, The BBC Stage at Leopallooza and Summer's End Progressive Music Festival in Wales selling out her headline shows in the UK.
In October 2019, Jo Beth released her second atmospheric and heart-wrenching album 'Strangers' (as Rise) following a UK, Wales and Ireland tour with her band 'The Abandoned Orchestra'. The album found deepening worldwide support and was widely supported and fan funded via pre-order by her growing fan base making her Listen With Monger's top female south-west artist of 2019.
That same year she released the 'Splinters' EP with legendary guitarist Peter Yates (Fields of the Nephilim) on their Yates and Young EP. Yates has been a long term contributor to Young's recordings and she credits him as being an integral part of her recorded sound.
In 2020 she started working on a plethora of new projects including two film soundtracks, a new album as part of folk trio NIGHTSONG (2020) and a highly anticipated third album 'Broken Spells' due for release in late 2023-early 2024. The album will be the first release that Jo Beth has worked on not only as writer, performer, arranger and producer, but as mixing engineer also.
